What we do
Our goal is to create an excellent, organic market garden that will benefit people living locally as well as the planet in general!
We grow a wide range of fruit, vegetables and herbs for local people and provide a teaching space for adults and young people alike to learn how to grow food.
In collaboration with local food producers
In addition the Local Community Market Gardens want to work with other local food producers to help them with any surplus, share skills, knowledge and understanding and develop strength as a sector.
We encourage people to work with us who are interested in learning, getting their hands dirty and sharing the harvest. This will build a community of growers to guide the direction of the business.
Our aim is to connect with our local community through:
- Co-operation with the community at large but particularly close to our market garden.
- Collaboration with local farmers and other small scale growers, restaurants, farmers’ markets and educators.
- Organic produce grown, harvested and shared with our fellow growers and the surplus sold to the wider community.
- Working with nature.
- Visits and open days, workshops (some already planned) and events.
- We particularly want to get young people involved and are looking at practical ways we can do this, such as the Young Marketeers programme https://www.schoolfoodmatters.org/what-we-do/projects
